Dear Kids,
Today was my birthday. I don’t find birthdays special generally, and I’m not really one to celebrate (we’ll see what happens next year…). But still… it’s always nice be spend the day with my 4 favorite people. And birthdays are always a great excuse to go out to eat, right (I mean, in fairness, waking up in the morning is a good enough reason for me to go out to eat). So, since it was my birthday, I got to choose the genre and venue. I went with Indian and Jewel of India.
On the one hand, it was pretty weird to go there and not have the buffet…in fact, they didn’t even have the buffet tables out; the place looked so different. On the other, my waist and belt were relieved…no pressure (ha! see what I did there?). The food was amazing. I’m not sure how we first discovered Jewel of India, but it is among the 3 best restaurants we go to. They’re a bit too friendly there, but I guess better that then the Chinese restaurant and the “Nasty Lady,” right?
The one thing that has always irked you kids concerning my birthday is that you always ask me what I want, and I always tell you “nothing…just be nice to each other and don’t fight.” I think I will continue to tell you that until the day I die, and I hope that , you will continue to take at least one day out a year and be nice to each other and not fight. And if by some miracle you have already overcome your differences and are close and don’t fight anymore, then use my birthday as an annual opportunity to do something good in the world. Every June 2, go to a soup kitchen and feed the homeless, go to the local cemetery and clean old graves, make a point to give money to homeless people, go to a nursing home and read to a resident. I don’t care what it is, but do something nice and don’t fight.
Love,
Aba
