Fairbanks — Day 6

Fairbanks — Day 6

When I'm no longer rapping, I want to open up an ice cream parlor and call myself Scoop Dogg.

Dear Kids,

Once Fairbanks at 2 a.m.again, I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, but this time I was prepared. I had my phone ready, and I was more aware. So, I snapped a few pics to share with B___, and when I woke up, sure enough, they were indeed on the phone. I still have no idea what happened to the pics I took yesterday, but whatever. At least I got some for posterity.

After taking the pictures and going to the bathroom, I got back into bed and woke up again at 4:45, so I was ready to work at 5 a.m. Ima also got up and started working at 6. I stopped a few hours later, made your lunches, got you all ready, and took you down the hill to camp.

After Fairbanks at 2 a.m.work, Ima and I went to Costco and returned some stuff we bought the other day. Then we headed over to The Home Depot in search of a kit to sharpen the blades of the reel mower. We couldn’t find a specific kit, but we did buy a metal file to try to sharpen the blade that way. Oh, and we bought a ton of mosquito repellent. I don’t think I’ve mentioned here yet about how bad the mosquitos are here. It’s insane. They’re everywhere, and they bite constantly.

SBR tried to organize an outing with the kids from camp to all meet at Hot Licks for ice cream, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out. One girl did call Ima (per SBR’s instructions), but since SBR failed to explain anything to Ima, it was a bit of an awkward call since Ima didn’t have the details that SBR said she would have. Nevertheless, after we picked you up from camp, we headed over to Hot Licks and sampled the local ice cream shop. It was tasty, but I think we may be a bit spoiled as we thought some of the places back East were better (but in fairness, I’m not sure you kids have ever eaten homemade ice cream before…only from large chains). SBE got a soft-serve swirl on a cone, SBK got a single scoop on a cone, Ima and SBR got sundaes (SBR got a large, and Ima a small), and I got a S’mores milk shake.

Ice cream was followed by even more shopping: this time back to the Fred Meyer. Did I mention that Ima was excited to see that even up here in Fairbanks there was a kosher section? I told her that the “Frozen Chosen” needed to buy their food somewhere.

When we got back home, Ima watered the garden and went for a run in the neighborhood. I went when she got back, and that rounded out the day.

Love,

Aba
